OKA Membership
There are five membership options to choose from when joining the OKA. Please review the category descriptions below and choose the membership category best suited to you.
Professional Membership in the Ontario Kinesiology Association (OKA) also includes membership in the Canadian Kinesiology Alliance (CKA). The CKA represents provincial kinesiology associations (PKAs) across Canada, which includes over 3,500 affiliated Kinesiologists. The CKA develops progressive partnerships with other national organizations, providing support to effect positive change within government and public policy, and by promoting the science of Kinesiology. The CKA advances its member associations by facilitating national and interprovincial communication and partnerships, and by supporting and encouraging ongoing development of PKAs. CKA annual membership fees of $45.00 + HST ($25.50 + HST if joining after July 1) are collected by the OKA as part of our application process.
To become a Professional Member of OKA you must be licensed by the regulatory body, the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario.
- Government licensing is mandatory for all kinesiologists practicing in the Province of Ontario
- OKA Membership and Application fees are non-refundable once your application/renewal has been completed
- OKA Professional Liability Insurance (PLI) fees are non-refundable
- OKA Professional Liability Insurance is not valid without a current OKA Professional Membership
- OKA Professional Liability Insurance varies in price from approximately $100 per year to $150 per calendar year depending on the level of insurance required and is in addition to OKA membership fees.
- The cost for an OKA membership renewal is $200 + HST ($226.00) per calendar year for subsequent years.
- Professional liability insurance is not included in the membership renewal fee and is an additional cost each year that varies depending on the amount of insurance you require.
Membership Categories
Professional Member
Open to those individuals who hold a valid regulatory college license to practice as a kinesiologist in Ontario. Professional Members are entitled to access the OKA Professional Liability Insurance (PLI) if required, which provides coverage that meets or exceeds the requirements of the regulatory college. Professional Members shall be entitled to one vote at all Meetings of the Members and shall be eligible for election of the Board and to the serve as officers of the Corporation.

*Applications submitted in November or December are automatically processed for the full following year. Applicants will receive 2 free months of OKA membership and Professional liability insurance (if applicable) for the remaining portion of the current year. Please note that OKA application fees and liability insurance premiums are non-refundable once processed.
Professional Member (Out of Province)
Open to individuals who live and work solely outside of the province of Ontario and are therefore not subject to Ontario licensing requirements. Professional Members (Out of Province) are not subject to Ontario licensing requirements and as such are entitled to access the PLI as part of their membership. OKA PLI is valid Canada-wide and covers the full scope of practice of a Kinesiologist. Professional Members (out of Province) shall be entitled to one vote at all Meetings of the Members but shall not be eligible for election of the Board and to the serve as officers of the Corporation. This category is restricted to those individuals who reside and work solely outside of the province of Ontario. (Fees as above)
Student Member
Open to non-practicing/non-licensed students currently enrolled in a full-time kinesiology undergraduate or graduate program at a recognized university. Student Members are not entitled to vote at Meetings of the Members and are not eligible for election of the Board or to the serve as officers of the Corporation.
Standard Student Membership with OKA is Free!
Student Member plus Professional Liability Insurance
If you are a 3rd or 4th year student you can now purchase professional liability insurance as part of your membership. Student Members can now purchase either $2m, $3m, or $5m of insurance to provide coverage while working under the direct supervision of an R.Kin, PT, OT, RMT or Chiropractor, working within your skill set, and working within the scope of practice of a kinesiologist. This will be advantageous if you are part of a co-op program or seeking part time employment in the field while still a student. Professional Liability Insurance premiums are in addition to the membership fees below and vary depending on the amount of insurance you wish to purchase.

Affiliate Member
Open to individuals who have a general interest in the field of kinesiology or the Ontario Kinesiology Association, or individuals who are not yet licensed to practice by the College. Affiliate Members do not have access to the PLI coverage. Affiliate Members are not entitled to vote at Meetings of the Members and are not eligible for election of the Board or to the serve as officers of the Corporation.

Academic Member
Open to individuals who are faculty members (including lecturers and academic co-curricular staff) from an Ontario academic institution with a recognized kinesiology undergraduate, graduate, or post-graduate (including human kinetics, exercise science, etc.) program.
Academic Membership is free (subject to approval) to those individuals wishing to serve on the OKA Academic Advisory Committee.
Applications for Academic Advisory Committee (AAC) Membership are subject to review and approval by the AAC Chair and are based on active participation on the committee as per the AAC Terms of Reference outlined below available at this link.
Academic Members are not entitled to vote at Meetings of the Members and are not eligible for election of the Board or to the serve as officers of the Corporation.
If you do not wish to participate in the Academic Advisory Committee you can still join as an Academic Member and pay the associated fee outlined below, depending on the time of year you submit your application.

Reinstatement of Membership
Under certain circumstances past members who have let their membership lapse, can reinstate their membership. Reinstatement is only available within a two year window from when you were last a Professional member. Applicants who are outside of this two year timeframe must re-apply and go through the application process again. To determine if you qualify for reinstatement please contact the Association office.
