Hours of Work

Must be available for day shift, two days per week (preferably Tuesdays and Thursdays).  Shifts and hours may change according to departmental requirements.

Position Summary

The Ergonomic Specialist Champion (ESC) will oversee the musculoskeletal injury prevention (MIP) program that supports patient safety while ensuring a safe and healthy workplace for staff.  Reporting through Occupational Health and Safety to the Human Resources Director, the ESC will assist in a variety of duties such as Physical Demands Analyses (PDAs), Ergonomic Assessments, Return to Work (RTW) / modified work programs and develop, facilitate, evaluate training programs to increase awareness.  With an overall goal aimed at reducing illness / injury associated with MSI’s, the ESC will engage in a variety of prevention strategies to help mitigate MSI incident rates.


  • University undergraduate degree in Kinesiology
  • Registered in good standing with the Ontario College of Kinesiology
  • Knowledge and experience in physical demands assessments, return to work programs, implementing modified work plans
  • Knowledge of various patient handling devices and ability to train staff on safe use
  • Knowledge and training on material handling equipment designed to decrease ergonomic risks
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience in the performance and assessment of individuals with acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries preferred
  • Skills in development and delivery of adult education sessions
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Knowledge of policy development
  • Knowledge and experience in change management
  • knowledge of Occupational Health & safety Act, Regulation [67/93]
  • Demonstrated knowledge of current medical assessment techniques and medical terminology
  • Good time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Abilities to prepare and maintain reports / statistics
  • Must be able to fulfill phycial requirement of the job, as per current Physical Demands Analysis
  • Must meet expectations for appropriate, respectful and professional conduct, as set out in the RMH Code of Conduct
